Engagement sessions are a great way to work with your photographer before your big day. It will give you the opportunity to see how he/she works and it will also give them the opportunity to see how you are in front of the camera. My belief is that engagement sessions should be relaxed and fun. To ensure that you have the best experience, here are my “Do’s” & “Don’ts”.
Do pamper yourself before the session. Get your hair, makeup and nails done. You will look and feel your best.
Don’t believe that the harsh noon time sun is best for photos. Golden hour occurs just before sunset and just after sunrise. If you can schedule your session in the late evening do so.
Do select a season that you both enjoy. Not everyone likes summer best. If the winter’s cold is what you love then have your shoot done in the snow.
Don’t limit your props (if you want to use any) to balloons or signs. If you want to bring your dog along, bring him. Heck, even bring a horse if you want to. Feel free to think outside the box.
Do avoid wearing clothing with busy patterns or logos. They tend to be distracting when photographed. Solid colours work best.
Don’t believe that all engagement photos are posed. Walking shots is just one example of creating a more candid look to your images.
Do select an environment or location that suits you best. Are you more urban…
Don’t be afraid to show affection.
Do have fun!
